Review: In truth, the most competitive field of fiction is not invasion from outer space or talking dogs or impossible missions, but the most basic narrative of all, the love story.
And it's also the most crowded field, and the hardest to do right.
This film, this story is amazing. It reminds me of My Sassy Girl, an Asian love story that captured the world's imagination and almost became a franchise, copied numerous times.
It also brings to mind Richard Matheson's classic Bid Time Returns, another love story for the ages that uses the juxtaposition of time. (Somewhere in Time, completed as a 1980 movie).
I already gave it the highest rating on IMDb.
The animation is stunning and compliments this one-of-a-kind story.
All things considered, I'd like to avoid an ongoing argument about which Japanese animation studio is better, or worse, than others.
I just like to be thankful that Japanese anime exists, because I can't imagine any other country making something this moving, this powerful, this graphic.
